Kyle Palmieri scored two straight goals in the third period to rally the Anaheim Ducks past the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 on Tuesday night. On day three of the series, New Zealand came face to face with the enormity of the task that is playing India in India on turning pitches. Against much better - crucially, much more experienced - spinners, on a track that had become much more difficult than in the first innings, New Zealands batsmen did a lot of things right. In fact, they batted much better than India did in their first innings, and even denied India when they got on their first roll, but they still ended up conceding a 56-run lead, which is good as 150 when you have to bat last on such a pitch. Before that final collapse, for 90 overs, we had a near perfect innings featuring two excellent spinners at the top of their game, bowling in their own conditions against batsmen using every sinew of discipline, technique and awareness to counter them. As it happens in such contests, the errors were few and far between. There was a passive attempt by a batsman here, a freebie on the pads there, but quite a few spells of play deserved to be part of a classic; they were denied that distinction by the eventual 56-run deficit.Martin Guptill defied low expectations by taking a toll on the fast bowlers when the ball was new, and then starting off well against spin. At first, Ravindra Jadeja had long-off back for him, doubting if Guptill could score without going aerial. Guptill waited, took singles, and forced Jadeja to bring the fielder up. Aware that he had to score too because there werent going to be too many scoring opportunities, Guptill went over mid-off immediately. Then the fielder went back, and he started taking singles again. As can often happen, Guptill worked hard against the threatening bowlers, and dropped his guard against pace, which normally serves mainly as relief for the spin bowlers - and the batsmen. Guptill played across the line of an Umesh Yadav delivery and paid the price. The lbw call was touch and go, but would likely have returned an umpires call verdict had DRS been available and called upon.Kane Williamson and Tom Latham then put up a masterclass much like Cheteshwar Pujara and M Vijay had. They picked the length early, they moved decisively, either well forward or right back, they swept the right lines, and they didnt let Jadeja run through his overs. This should not be confused with what India complained about. India complained about the comfort breaks; this was more about making Jadeja wait till they were ready. While it may not make that much of a difference, it doesnt let Jadeja dictate the pace. The bigger difference was their techniques.India began with in-out fields, looking to see if the batsmen had the patience and the skill to score runs without lofting the ball. They also wanted to keep a lid on the scoring while the partnership was on because they knew on this pitch one could bring many. New Zealand passed that test. Ones and twos kept coming. R Ashwin didnt get to bowl more than six balls in a row at one batsman. There were no traps being laid.On the third morning, the fields changed. Anil Kumble, Indias coach, asked Jadeja and Ashwin to make sure the ball was ending up on the stumps. That is typical Kumble. He made a career out of balls ending up on the stumps. The fields changed too. Singles dried up. Ashwin now bowled 11 straight balls at Latham. He wouldnt need more. The 11th was an offbreak that didnt turn. After all the hard work, Latham, who played for a marginal amount of turn was beaten on the inside edge.Williamson fell to the pitch, a massive offbreak from well outside the off, accompanied by an explosion off the pitch and low bounce. He stayed back, he didnt open the face, but it still spun past his defence. Having lost three wickets in four overs, New Zealand were in danger of conceding a huge lead, but Luke Ronchi and Mitchell Santner were about to arrest the collapse.Ronchi showed enterprise, Santner defence. India threw the bait. Jadeja and Ashwin bowled with no point to Ronchi. At every ball slightly short of driving length, Ronchi would go back, but not go ahead with the cut shot if it wasnt there for the taking. Once he even left an Ashwin offbreak alone after shaping to cut. For the first five overs of the partnership, there was nothing. The batsmen were in the bowlers sights. There were close calls. The pressure - and anticipation of the spinners - was palpable. Then, bowling his eighth straight over of the morning, Ashwin blinked. Ronchi was 8 offf 28, Santner 1 off 18, the partnership 3 off 32. Cheap Nike Air Max 90 Wholesale. A slight drop in length was all Ronchi needed, and he was all over it. Ashwins next three overs went for 19. The tide was turning. Indias advantage had come down to 121. Ashwin was taken off. Against Yadav, there were few problems. By the time Ashwin came back, the deficit was down to 111, and there were 36 minutes to go to lunch. This was a crucial 36 minutes. New Zealand had more to lose because India could easily take three wickets in those 36 minutes.Ashwin dropped another ball short. Santner picked up another boundary. Rohit Sharma was tried for an over. He conceded a four too. With the lead under 100, just before the start of the 80th over, Ajinkya Rahane had a word with Jadeja, who went over the wicket to change the angle. Now was the time for the umpire to make an error. As a rule, you dont give lbws for left-arm bowlers to right-hand batsmen unless the ball has turned back or straightened or it is so full there is no time for the angle to take it past the stumps. Ronchi swept, had a stride in, but was given out lbw.Santner continued to concentrate hard and take Ashwin on. The way he hit two boundaries after stepping out to Ashwin was pure class. Down the pitch, not worried about the stumping while he was, right to the pitch of the ball, using his levers not power to chip over mid-off and back over Ashwins head. Just after lunch India made a mistake. Five overs of pace were not just mental relief but offered two free leg-side fours and a third that could have been, and a half-volley that Santner drove beautifully back past the bowler. Not for the first time a New Zealand batsman was looking like he could play a blinder despite the obvious disadvantages they face when playing in India. They were against spinners who were at the top of their game on a pitch that one of them, Jadeja, termed as similar to the underprepared ones he has played all his domestic cricket on. They didnt know which way Jadeja was turning the ball so they had to pick the length early and play him off the pitch. Still, they had come within 67 of Indias first-innings score with five of their wickets standing. This time Ashwin produced the special delivery. Going over the wicket, changing the angle, spinning one big, taking the edge of Santners bat for an extraordinary catch for Wriddhiman Saha. This was a thick edge. Saha had to follow the ball quite quickly. It stuck in the webbing. Another potential classic was nipped in the bud. The fact that so much mental energy was spent and it was still in the bud shows you how difficult it is when these two spinners bowl for almost two sessions and their errors can be counted on your hands. Jadeja then ran through the tail. While you appreciated Indias skill and composure even as New Zealand got closer and closer, you felt a little sorry for New Zealand. They had zero rub of the green. They lost the toss, another umpire might have given Rohit out on 16 fewer than his eventual 35, and Ronchi definitely got a rough one to end a 49-run stand on a pitch where new batsmen found it extremely tough to bat. These are not the things you budget for. You expect to win matches despite losing tosses. You expect to get over an umpiring call here or there. New Zealand certainly werent complaining. These things are not in their control. What was in their control is for every batsman to follow his game plans; that Ross Taylor couldnt will hurt New Zealand the most. He had a platform coming in at 159 for 2, he held the potential of playing around with Indias discipline with his unorthodox sweeps, but he made the biggest error. When you are not picking which way Jadeja is turning the ball, you want to pick the length early and either smother the turn or stay back to adjust. Taylor played passively, stayed on the crease, and was beaten on the inside edge. Batsmen who have followed the series between Sri Lanka and Australia will tell you that you dont want to be beaten on the inside edge.It is a little harsh to single out Taylor based on a two-ball innings, his first in the series, but such is the nature of the beast when you havent had enough acclimatisation to the kind of bowling you are facing and you are having to stretch every sinew to even think of parity with the favourites. cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '

AMSTERDAM -- Less than two years after an anti-doping test showed he had cancer, Thomas van der Plaetsen is heading to the Olympics -- as European decathlon champion. Cheap Nike Football Jerseys .First the Belgian had to suffer through the ignominy of being tainted a drug cheat, while the test in October 2014 in fact showed he had testicular cancer. Then came the operation, followed by chemotherapy. When he became bald because of the treatment, he looked half the decathlete he once was.On Thursday he put all of this behind him and hung on in the concluding 1,500 meters to win the European title with 8,218 points ahead of Czech Adam Helcelet with 8,157.It is difficult to say if this is my greatest win ever, but it is definitely the one I cherish the most, he said. Many had ruled out a return to the top, especially in a discipline with 10 events spread over two days. After everything that happened last year, that is why this has so much significance. A fantastic comeback, he said. The result also qualified him for the Rio de Janeiro Games.Greg Rutherford already knows everything about the Olympics after he won the long jump title in London four years ago. Since then, he also became the reigning continental, Commonwealth and world champion. He wanted to keep that picture perfect going into Rio and he did with a penultimate jump of 8.25 meters, to edge Michel Torneus of Sweden by 4 centimeters. It turned into a double golden evening for Britain. In the absence of world champion Dafne Schippers, 20-year-old Dina Asher-Smith of Britain won the 200 ahead of Bulgarian Ivet Lalova-Collio. Schippers will compete in the 100 and relays over the next three days and therefore chose not to defend her title. In the mens 100 meters, Churandy Martina upset the odds for gold, finishing in 10.07 seconds, the same time as Jak Ali Harvey of Tukry. It was the first gold for the host nation. Jimmy Vicaut of France, the overwhelming favorite only came in third, .01 seconds behind. In the high jump, Ruth Beita of Spain, at 37 almost twice the age of Asher-Smith, successfully defended her high jump title, scaling 1.98 meters, holding a edge of 2 centimeters over Bulgarian Mirela Demireva. RENTON, Wash. -- The Seattle Seahawks and coach Pete Carroll have agreed on a contract extension, keeping the oldest head coach in the NFL locked up beyond the 2016 season.Team owner Paul Allen tweeted confirmation of Carrolls deal on Tuesday. The move with the 64-year-old Carroll came just two days after the team locked up general manager John Schneider to a contract extension. Both Carrolls and Schneiders current deals were set to expire after the 2016 season, but the tandem pairing that has brought the Seahawks unrivaled success in their franchise history will be teamed together for another few seasons.Carroll is 60-36 in the regular season since becoming Seattles head coach in 2010. Hes taken the Seahawks to the playoffs in five of six seasons, including two Super Bowl appearances and the only title in franchise history.Carrolls deal was first reported by ESPN and said the extension goes through the 2019 season.Whenever asked during the offseason about his contract situation, Carroll would shrug off the question saying Im good. But the lack of an extension fueled speculation that Carroll may be ready to take on a new role and walk away from being a head coach, no matter how often he indicated he was set on continuing in his position with Seattle.Everything is great. Im under contract, Carroll said at the conclusion of minicamp in June.Carrolls somewhat unconventional coaching methods have been proven successful in his third stint as an NFL head coach.Givven the autonomy over player personnel in concert with Schneider, the Seahawks are on a run of success never before seen in the Pacific Northwest with four straight playoff appearances that included the Super Bowl title after the 2013 season and a return trip to the Super Bowl a year later that came up 1-yard short of a possible repeat. KANSAS CITY, Mo. Stitched Basketball Jerseys . -- Andy Reid has been around long enough to know that focusing on the playoffs with three games left in the regular season is foolish, a trap that can derail a team capable of much bigger things. He also knows something about human nature. So, try as he might to stop his Chiefs from pondering what the future could hold on Sunday, the old coach reluctantly acknowledged that everybody on his sideline will be well aware of the stakes.Probably everyone on the Tennessee sideline, too.I know its an important time of the year. I know that. And if youre in the hunt, every game becomes an important game, right? Reid asked. If you can just keep it that simple from a coach and player standpoint, youre doing OK. Its going to get blown up around you, but we dont talk about it.The Chiefs (10-3), tied atop the AFC West after last weeks win over Oakland, are among three teams that can clinch a playoff spot this week. Beating the Titans is the easiest way, but they could back into a playoff spot if things break their way in games involving Denver, Pittsburgh and Miami. But there is more at stake than just the playoffs, which is why Reid and Co. are focused solely on beating the red-hot Titans. They still believe they can earn a first-round bye and the AFCs No. 2 seed.Theres a lot of incentives to put on this game, Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith said. You want a ticket to the dance. You cant win it unless you get in, so you want to clinch it, for sure. There are nearly as many incentives for the Titans (7-6), who are tied with Houston atop the AFC South. But while the Chiefs are almost certain to make the playoffs as a wild-card if they cant hold off Oakland in the division, the Titans only hope for the postseason may be as a division champ.I know they know the big picture, Titans coach Mike Mularkey said, echoing his counterpart, but Im going to keep them on the same picture weve been on that weve got to win this game. We have to win. We have to go to a tough environment in Kansas City, a team thats playing extremely well, and weve got to win this game or everything else is irrelevant. As two playoff contenders prepare to tangle at Arrowhead Stadium, here are some key story lines:BUNDLE UP: The Chiefs-Raiders game Thursday night ended with temperatures in the low-20s, and thats going to feel balmy. Snow is in the forecast on Saturday with temps at kickoff Sunday in the low-teens.Probably one of my last college games at Oregon, Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota said, it got down into the high-20s. So this will be the coldest game Ive played, for sure.RUN, RUN, RUN: The Titans roll into the game with the leagues third-best rushing offense, buoyed by DeMarco Murrays resurgent season and Derrick Henrys increased role in the offense. And theyll be facing a Chiefs defense missing linebacker Derrick Johnson, who ruptured his Achilles tendon last week.Next man up. Thats what happened with me, Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston said. They played the first eight games this season without me and they did a great job. So its next man up. Im going to pray for him and hope he stays strong. I know hell stay strong. But the next man needs to be prepared.SPEAKING OF RUNNING: The Chiefs have struggled to run the ball for weeks, and much of the shine has worn off Spencer Ware, who was a fantasy football darling through the first six weeks. Its not one person, one scheme. Its been hit or miss on all the different schemes, Reid said. We can tighten it up, and we can give the players some things that might be a little better for what they do.TYREEK THE FREAK: Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill was the AFC special teams player of the week after his punt return touchdown against Oakland. He also caught a TD pass in the game. And with a kick return TD and a TD run, hes the first rookie since Gale Sayers to score each of those ways.I have to give a shoutout to my brothers out there on the field fighting for me, doing everything that theyre supposed to do, Hill said. Without those guys, I wouldnt be standing here in front of you.RED ZONE EFFICIENCY: The Titans are among the best in the NFL at scoring touchdowns in the red zone, while the Chiefs are among the worst. Mariota has thrown 32 TD passes without a pick in those spots. He has a very quick release and theres not a lot of room for error down there, a lot of tight windows, Mularkey said, and I think hes been very good with that.---For more NFL coverage: www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP-NFL Cheap Basketball Jerseys Free Shipping . -- Canadian Andrew Wiggins got the ball on the wing, made a nifty spin move and then let go with a soft floater from about 10 feet that swished through the net in Allen Fieldhouse. LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears knew they had to act quickly to land Josh Sitton once the three-time Pro Bowl guard was released by the Green Bay Packers. There was, however, one question that crossed general manager Ryan Paces mind. Why were the Packers letting him go?Thats the first thing that pops into your head, Pace said Monday. Hey, this guy is talented, were watching every single game from last season and watching him play at an extremely high level. `Hey, whats going on here, man? What are the reasons? Thats when you do a ton of research. The Bears wasted no time, signing Sitton to a three-year deal Sunday night after he was a surprise cut by the Packers the previous day.It was a bold move for a team trying to pick itself up after finishing last in the NFC North in its first season under coach John Fox and Pace. Its also quite a change for a player who went from one of the top teams in the NFC North to an also-ran.Sitton wanted to act quickly with the season about to start. He liked the idea of staying in the division and playing in a colder climate, though he insisted he wasnt trying to get back at Green Bay by signing with rival Chicago.Honestly, it didnt have anything to do with sticking it to the Packers, he said. More familiar with the division, close to where I was. I like the weather up here. We had a few other teams interested. Its too damn hot in the South.Sittons arrival is a big boost for what was a thin line that got banged-up in the preseason. Still, for the second straight year the Bears are making a big adjustment in the trenches heading into the opener. Last season, Kyle Long made a late switch from right guard to right tackle after the Bears waived Jordan Mills.Well, the personnel side of the NFL is always fluid, whether its offseason, in season, postseason, Fox said. Ive seen changes. This change gives the Bears two elite guards with Sitton on the left side and Long on the right. Sittons arrival also gives Chicago the option to slide rookie Cody Whitehair from left guard to center, which Fox said is his best position. Veteran Ted Larsen has been filling in there since Hroniss Grasu tore the ACL in his right knee a monthh ago. Wholesale Basketball Jerseys. No. 71 (Sitton) is usually one of the two of three guys that I circle as guys I have to beat, Long said. Now he is on our team. Its a great thing for our group. I know Jay Cutler probably appreciates it.The signing of Sitton came during a busy stretch for the Bears. The most notable moves Monday were signing kicker Connor Barth to replace Robbie Gould, and adding former Philadelphia and Arizona quarterback Matt Barkley to the practice squad.Barth has played in 83 games over eight seasons with Kansas City, Tampa Bay and Denver. He spent last year with the Buccaneers and was vying for a roster spot in New Orleans but lost out to incumbent Kai Forbath.Robbies a good friend of mine, said Barth, who played for Fox and special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers in Denver. Obviously as kickers around the league were kind of a close-knit fraternity and hes been outstanding here for his whole career. Hes the best. Im just excited for the opportunity to come in and do what I can to help this team. The Bears did not have anybody in camp competing with Gould, and Pace said they did not look to trade him. They lined up Barth once he became available and released Gould on Sunday night, ending an 11-year run with the most accurate kicker in franchise history and Chicagos all-time scoring leader. He showed me a lot of different things, punter Pat ODonnell said. How to carry myself on and off the field. How to deal with different weather conditions here. Hes like a brother to me, so its really hard for me to see him leave. But hes going to do really good things going forward, so Im excited for him.Game notes Long (shoulder) and CBs Tracy Porter (concussion) and Kyle Fuller (knee) returned to practice Monday. ... GREEN BAY, Wis. China Soccer Jerseys . -- Aaron Rodgers needed to unwind after a so-so day at the office.Sure, the Packers quarterback was 31 of 42 for 294 yards. But a season-high four turnovers doomed Green Bay in a 30-16 loss on Sunday to the Dallas Cowboys, and Rodgers was responsible for two of them.It made for choppy night again for the Packers offense.I dont know if I agree with `broken. Its definitely not clean in some areas, coach Mike McCarthy said. The Packers planned for a long night of studying film before turning their attention right away on Monday to the Chicago Bears, their opponent on Thursday night.Have a glass of scotch and chill out a little bit, watch the film, Rodgers said about his plans for Sunday night. Im my biggest critic, and I look at this as finely as I look at every other game and improve.Drops were a problem at times for receivers. Timing seemed to be off during a couple other instances. Rodgers overthrew open receiver Randall Cobb in the back of the end zone early in the fourth quarter, and the Packers had to settle for one of Mason Crosbys three field goals. The turnovers especially hurt. The Packers had five fumbles, losing three.Rodgers fumbled on first-and-goal at the Cowboys 1 with 1:10 left in the third quarter. It was a designed draw play out of an empty backfield.Jordy Nelson fumbled after a hard hit from safety Barry Church as soon as the Packers receiver came down with an 18-yard pass over the middle in the first quarter. The Cowboys recovered at the Packers 36.Were down, Nelson said. Offensively, we didnt play the way we need to. We made some plays, didnt make enough, didnt take care of the ball, and thats not us.Fans at Lambeau Field booed at times . Even Rodgers, the two-time NFL MVP, wasnt immune from the jeering.Look, were upset, theyre upset, its part of it, Rodgers said of the booing. Its not the first time. Probably wont be the last time. The Packers didnt get into the end zone until Rodgers and Cobb connected on a 6-yard touchdown pass with 6:53 left to get within 27-16.There are some positives on which to build.Rodgers was sacked just once. Eddie Lacy ran for 65 yards on 17 carries in spite of a sprained left ankle. Second-year receiver Ty Montgomery proved to be the Packers best receiver with 98 yards on 10 catches, with a team-high 12 targets. With backup running back James Starks out with a knee injury, Montgomery ended up taking three carries in the backfield, too, for 6 yards.I felt my movement was good tonight, Rodgers said. I felt the line blocked really well. Weve got to do a better job of hitting the ones were used to hitting. The output just doesnt match the high bar that the Packers have set in recent years. To keep comparing it to the past is a benefit to us because we know what it looks like. We have people that were here in the past that were a part of that, McCarthy said. FRISCO, Texas -- Tony Romo stopped a reporter in the middle of what appeared to be the first question in his first meeting with the media since August. The Dallas quarterback brought a statement, and he wasnt going to answer any questions Tuesday. The 36-year-old coming off his fourth back injury in less than four years conceded the starting job to Dak Prescott , who has led the Cowboys (8-1) to a franchise season record-tying eight straight wins and the best record in the NFL.And a somber Romo didnt hide his disappointment while reading the five-minute statement.Hes earned the right to be our quarterback, Romo said of the 23-year-old rookie. As hard as that is for me to say, hes earned that right. Hes guided our team to an 8-1 record and thats hard to do.Romo, who broke a bone in his back in a preseason game, is expected to be Prescotts backup Sunday at home against Baltimore (5-4). It should be the first time Romo is active since Thanksgiving last year, and the first time in 10 years he isnt the Dallas starter. If you think for a second that I dont want to be out there, then you probably never felt the pure ecstasy of competing and winning, Romo said. That hasnt left me. In fact, it may burn now more than ever.Romo was surprisingly reflective as well, recalling the early days of his career when he was an unheralded free agent fighting to stay on the roster. Now hes the franchise leader in passing yards and touchdowns, ahead of Super Bowl winners Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman. But hes also in the same place Drew Bledsoe was in 2006 when Romo replaced an ineffective Bledsoe at halftime of a loss to the New York Giants six games into the season and never gave up the starting job.I remember the feeling like it was yesterday, Romo said. It really is an incredible time in your life. And if I remember one thing from back then, its the people that helped me along when I was young. And if I can be that to Dak, I tried to be and I will be going forward.Romo signed the first $100 million contract in franchise history in 2013 and counts $20.8 million against the salary cap this season. The cap hit next year is nearly $25 million, but the Cowboys can reduce it by roughly $5 million if they release him.The mood was more jovial earlier in the day when owner and generall manager Jerry Jones made one of his weekly radio appearances. Cheap Nike Soccer Jerseys. paid a lot of money for a backup quarterback as you well know, Jones said, referring to Kyle Ortons $3 million salary as Romos backup several years ago. And this, by the way, is going to be the record for having paid this for a backup quarterback. The Cowboys went 1-11 in the 12 games Romo missed last season with a twice-broken left collarbone. When he immediately grabbed his back after getting tackled awkwardly from behind in the preseason against Seattle, Dallas hopes seemed doomed again. But Prescott had already shown promise in the preseason. And after a one-point loss to the New York Giants in the opener, he has led fourth-quarter comebacks and easy victories alike while compiling the fourth-best passer rating (106.2) with 14 touchdowns and just two interceptions. We all know something magical is happening to our team, Romo said. Im not going to allow this situation to negatively affect Dak or this football team by becoming a constant distraction. I think Dak knows that I have his back. And I think I know that he has mine. After Romo went down in Seattle, the initial word was that his surgically repaired back had withstood the hit. But the broken bone was diagnosed the next day, with an initial timeframe of six to 10 weeks to recover.Getting hurt when you feel like you have the best team youve ever had was a soul-crushing moment for me, Romo said. You almost feel like an outsider. Coaches are sympathetic, but they still have to coach. And youre not there. Its a dark place, probably the darkest its ever been.Part of the darkness came from Romo realizing where he is in his career.Seasons are fleeting, he said in a speech with several pauses. Games become more precious. Chances for success diminish. Your potential successor has arrived, injured two years in a row and now in the mid-30s, the press is whispering, everyone has doubts, youve spent your career working to get here. And now Romos a backup again.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL---Follow Schuyler Dixon on Twitter at https://twitter.com/apschuyler cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '
EAST HARTFORD, Conn. Wholesale Jordan Retro 13 . -- American Athletic Conference Commissioner Mike Aresco says that his conference would not necessarily replace schools that leave for another league.Several American programs have been mentioned as prime candidates for the expansion of the Big 12, which is considering adding two, or perhaps as many as four schools.Aresco, speaking before Saturdays football game between Virginia and UConn, said the American has been making contingency plans and would be ready to react to whatever the Big 12 decides to do.Weve got our checklist, he said. We know what we need to do should something happen. But, he also said the conference could survive with 10 member schools and still hold a football championship game, and therefore would not be forced to add teams just for the sake keeping the conference at 12 members.I dont want to insult any schools that might want to be in our league...but, I dont want to dilute the brand in any way, he said. I think we have a good brand now.He said his priority is to put a winning product on the field and get a better TV deal.We dont have to have four or five teams in the Top 25 every year, he said. But weve got to be competitive.Aresco also said the conference has made no decision about whether to move its softball championship tournament this spring from North Carolina. But he noted that it is not at a neutral site and East Carolina is hosting the event as part of a rotation, not because of any bid for the tournament. The NCAA and ACC have pulled championship events from North Carolina over a law, known as HB2, which excludes gender identity and sexual orientation from statewide antidiscrimination protections. BOSTON -- The Red Sox sent David Ortiz off before his final regular-season game with a promise that he will return. Air Max 90 China Wholesale .This week, in the playoffs, when he goes for his fourth World Series title. And next year, when they hang his No. 34 from the Fenway facade among the teams retired numbers.During a pregame ceremony Sunday attended by Red Sox greats like Carl Yastrzemski and teammates from Ortizs three World Series championships, the ballclub honored the soon-to-retire slugger by draping a Dominican flag over the Green Monster and bringing out his father -- Big Papis real Papi -- to join him on the diamond.Ortiz broke into tears when he mentioned his late mother before gathering himself to thank his teammates and members of the organization from owner John Henry to clubhouse attendant Pookie Jackson. He also thanked the fans -- dropping to one knee and tipping his cap to the crowd -- along with the media, Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred and Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina, who were both in attendance. He changed the Red Sox, Manfred said before the game. He was a key part of the amazing three wins here. It changed the course of the franchise. But I also think that he changed the city. He became a symbol of the strength of the city and will always be remembered for that.Ortiz announced in November on his 40th birthday that this would be his final year, setting up a season-long farewell tour around the major leagues. As the home team, the Red Sox get to go last. Here are some other sights and sounds from Ortizs farewell:THE GAMEOrtiz had a chance to tie the game in the ninth, when he came up with one out and nobody on and the Red Sox trailing by one. He hit a weak nubber in front of the plate. In all, he was hitless in four at-bats as Toronto won 2-1 and clinched the ALs top wild-card berth.Im exhausted. Im not going to lie to you, he said. This past week caught up to me. Im so happy that its over so I can focus on whats coming up next -- the playoffs.Losses in five of their last six games cost the Red Sox a chance at home-field advantage when their AL Division Series against Cleveland begins on Thursday. Boston will instead host Game 3 on Sunday and Game 4 on Monday, if necessary.DECKED OUTThe Green Monster scoreboard read: Thanks, Big Papi. Banners hung from the light stanchions above. And Ortizs image was mowed into the center-field grass, as it has been for the entire season-ending series against the Blue Jays.Fans in the right-field bleachers held up cards that formed Ortizs No. 34 during the ceremony. During the game, the cards revealed the message: Thanks, Papi. And of course there were the three World Series championship banners behind home plate, all thanks in part to Ortiz. During the ceremony, Mike Lowell, Pedro Martinez and Jonny Gomes carried out the World Series trophies.Mary J. Blige sang the Star-Spangled Banner, as she did before Game 1 of the 2013 Series. The Red Sox also played the Dominican national anthem in Ortizs honor, and Medina threw out a ceremonial first pitch.THE DARK CLOUDManfred was at Fenway Park on the day several playoff positions were still to be determined and defended Ortiz from a report -- without confirming it -- that he tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug a decade ago.The New York Times reported in 2009 that Ortiz was among those who tested positive in a 2003 survey test designed to determine the degree of steroids use in baseball. Ortiz has denied using performance-enhancing drugs, but neither the union nor the commissioners office has explained the report.Players and management successfully fought a legal battle to keep the list and samples secret after federal agents seized them.Manfred said on Sunday there were at least 10 names on the list whose inclusion could be doubted for legitimate scientific reasons.Even if you were on that list, it was entirely possible that you were not a positive, the commissioner said.Asked if there was anything baseball could do to help Ortiz clear his name, Manfred said the results have been destroyed.Since Ortiz did not violate baseballs rules, the only damage from the report is to Ortizs legacy and his Hall of Fame candidacy when he reaches the ballot in five years. Manfred said it was up to the voting members of the Baseball Writers Association of America whether to induct players who have formally tested positive for steroids. But Ortizs case is different, he said.In situations where it is leaked, that is unfair to the player, Manfred said. And I think it would be wrong to exclude them.COMMISSIONER PAPI?Manfred said Ortiz stopped by his office last offseason to say he planned to retire. The Red Sox slugger again went to the commissioners office when the team was in New York last week; this time, he asked to use a conference room, where he met with beneficiaries of the David Ortiz Childrens Fund and other members of the community.I got the biggest kick out of just watching this stream of people coming through, Manfred said. Each one was a better story than the last.Manfred said he planned to talk to Ortiz about serving the sport in some capacity after he retires. Major League Baseball plans to run a commercial in English and Spanish during the playoffs that ends, Thanks, Big Papi! Youre not walking away, youre walking off.ON THE STREETMassachusetts Gov. OXFORD, Miss. -- Mississippis once-promising football season ended on Saturday with a final, embarrassing thud in a lopsided Egg Bowl loss. The Rebels (5-7, 2-6 Southeastern Conference) looked nothing like a team that was ranked No. 11 in the preseason poll, thanks to injuries to several key players and a porous defense that was once again overwhelmed during a 55-20 home loss to the Bulldogs .In the aftermath, coach Hugh Freeze didnt try to find any positives. The only silver lining he could see in this game was its the last of 2016.The Rebels wont play in a bowl game and finish with a losing record for the first time in Freezes five-year tenure.Im glad this season is over now, Freeze said. Its been difficult. I cant wait to hit the road recruiting, get the necessary changes made and get to spring ball. One big change is already known: Ole Miss defensive coordinator Dave Wommack announced his retirement about an hour before the Egg Bowl.Under Wommack, the Rebels had the nations No. 1 scoring defense in 2014 after giving up just 16 points per game. But the fall has been dramatic: Ole Miss gave up 34 points per game this season, which ranks last in the SEC.Part of the reason was key injuries to veterans like cornerback Kendarius Webster and defensive lineman Fadol Brown. But the Rebels were also short on SEC-level talent at several positions -- especially linebacker.Freeze hinted that the changes might not stop at a new defensive coordinator. We will look at everyone and everybody, Freeze said. Patterson immediately led the Rebels to a come-from-behind win over Texas A&M in his first game, but after that came the losses to Vanderbilt and Mississippi State. The final tally for Patterson in three games: 880 yards passing, six touchdowns and three interceptions. NEW YORK -- Braylon Edwards is coming back to the New York Jets -- again. Wholesale Hockey Jerseys Online . A person familiar with the situation said Wednesday night that the Jets will re-sign the wide receiver on a one-year deal Thursday morning, marking his third tenure with the Jets, before the team reports for training camp in Cortland. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal wasnt yet complete and the Jets hadnt announced it. The Jets also were hoping to sign their two first-round draft picks -- cornerback Dee Milliner and defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson -- before the team reports. A person familiar with the negotiations told the AP they expect Richardson, the No. 13 overall selection, to sign a four-year deal Thursday and report with the rest of the team. Milliners contract status was uncertain. The former Alabama star didnt practice during the off-season while recovering from shoulder surgery, and could begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list -- if he signs. Milliner, taken No. 9 overall, is expected to compete with Kyle Wilson for the starting spot vacated by Darrelle Revis, who was traded to Tampa Bay. Edwards took a physical with the team Wednesday, and will help add depth to a receiving corps that lacks experience. Leading receiver Santonio Holmes will start training camp on the active-physically unable to perform list as he recovers from a serious foot injury that ended his season last year after four games. The 30-year-old Edwards, who played his first four seasons in Cleveland after being drafted No. 3 overall in 2005, was acquired by the Jets in 2009. He helped lead New York to consecutive trips to the AFC championship game, coming up with several key plays. Edwards signed with San Francisco as a free agent in 2011, but played in only nine games. He was claimed late last season off waivers by the Jets from Seattle, where current New York general manager John Idzik worked in the front office. Edwards had just eight catches for 74 yards and a touchdown in 10 games with the Seahawks before being waived. In three games with the Jets, Edwards appeared rejuvenated with 10 catches for 125 yards while also re-establishing chemistry with quarterback Mark Sanchez. Jets tight end Kellen Winslow Jr., a former teammate of Edwards in Cleveland, called for New York to re-sign his buddy on Tuesday when he wrote .BringBraylonBack on Twitter. Edwards has 359 career receptions for 5,522 yards and 40 touchdowns. Cheap NHL Jerseys Authentic . Hey!" The lower tier of the School End of Queens Park Rangers Loftus Road was packed solid with a very festive-sounding Chelsea choral section in this particular part of South Africa Road London, W12. Emotion must give way to action for the Western Bulldogs on Saturday, as they seek to win a second AFL premiership in their history by ensuring they are not blown away early by the famously ferocious starts of the Sydney Swans.Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge and acting captain Easton Wood both admitted they were trying to keep emotions and mental energy under control in the 24 hours before the clubs first grand final since 1961, mindful that the wave the club has ridden over the past three weeks must be sustained for another 120 minutes. So much has been written and said about Bulldogs dreams this week. The club president Peter Gordon once offered his fantasy of a premiership right down to the last detail, and the injured club captain Robert Murphy has also shared his visions of walking the premiership cup through the streets of Melbourne and back to Footscray for the first time since 1954.But Wood and Beveridge have been left to try to separate dream from reality, with the hard task of countering the Swans now at the forefront of their minds.I havent played the game in my head yet, Wood said before the grand final parade. I reckon if I had done that a few times, I would be too tired by the time I actually got there. Obviously there is massive excitement but you take each moment as it comes and soak it up when it is out there.Beveridge said he was seeking to have as quiet a night as possible before the game.I will steer clear of the alcohol but I will go home, just put some final things down in preparation for messaging tomorrow. Ill relax, Beveridge said. It has been a busy week as well off the field, not only for me, but for the people who support the players, so we will find some time to chill out, like the players will, and come in here tomorrow with a clear head.It is exciting that we can possibly put the second cup in the cabinet. There is a bit of room. But there is no weight there. It is more exciting. We are looking forward to that challenge and, if anything, we have got a couple of gorillas off our back, winning our first final together was a great milestone against the Eagles and the last two finals have been significant, but this is obviously extremely unique and we have got to keep it on an even keel emotionally, but there is no doubt it is exciting, the prospect of being able to take this [the cup] home.Clear heads will be of most importance in the early minutes after the opening bounce. Sydney have more or less decided their past two finals against Adelaide and Geelong with formidable bursts of ball-winning and scoring inside the first quarter. This is not only significant for the Swans, but it is also the way recent grand finals have largely been won. In each of the past three years, Hawthorn supporters were just about ready to celebrate their latest flag when the quarter-time siren blew. They get out of the gates quickly, no doubt, but we do too. We just dont kick goals, Beveridge quipped. We are a pretty strong starter . Discount Adidas Hockey Jerseys. .. but unfortunately we have ben a bit wasteful the last three games. I think both teams start well, but the Swans have had some really emphatic starts in recent times, but it would be pretty disappointing if you are in a grand final and you are not ready for that first bounce.I think both teams will come at each other pretty hard. That is the old throwaway but to the players credit, even though they have been wasteful, they dont lose their focus. We have had teams come at us and be up - the Hawks did that - but we have stayed composed enough, so if it happens again, we have just got to keep our heads and fight our way back into it.We always love to have a great start and be effective and efficient early, and that is the plan, but we have to pull it off. If we dont, we have to go to plan B.Sydney coach John Longmire is mentoring a team with much the better premiership pedigree. This is the Swans third grand final in five seasons, and finals experience has often been cited as a major asset. But Longmire is nothing if not thorough, and he was sure to guard against any notion that the Swans simply need to show up and point to their recent visits to the MCG on grand final day to overawe the Dogs.I dont subscribe to that, he said. I think once the ball bounces, it is about who executes their plan the best, for the longest. That is the challenge. Both teams go in with enormous faith with each others systems and both teams go in in really good form. We lost the first one and then won the last two and if you have a look at the Doggies finals form, to be able to beat West Coast over there and Hawthorn and GWS up there is outstanding. That recent form is what we look at. That carries more weight going into the game. In the end, it is about when the ball bounces, who is able to sustain what they like to do the longest. In their one meeting this year, the Bulldogs were victorious by the slimmest of margins, when Jason Johannisen was able to kick truly at the SCG to put the visitors in front with scarcely five seconds left on the clock. That victory and the manner of it will help sustain Beveridge and his players on Saturday, though he admitted to hoping not to be as nerve-wracked this time around. They havent been daunted by the challenge or the prospect of taking on genuinely the best teams in the competition, Beveridge said. As it turns out, we didnt beat Geelong this year, but they are no longer in it. I think the players feel good about the fact they have been able to beat 16 other sides and they know that they deserve their place tomorrow. But we saw what happened at the end of our game against the Swans ... and obviously John and I were on the edge of our seats in the box, but you hope if you can pull it off tomorrow, it is not as tight as that. cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '
RIO DE JANIERO -- In 2004, a skinny, teenaged Usain Bolt traveled to Athens to run in his first Olympics. Cheap Nike Air Max China Wholesale . He flamed out in the first heat of the 200 meters, aggravated an ankle injury, and immediately flew back home. Who could have known what lay ahead? Even after the 2008 Olympics, when Bolt smashed the 100-meter world record with such exuberant style he was chastised for not running faster, no one imagined an ending like this. Not even Bolt himself. Not even close, he said Friday after anchoring Jamaica to victory in the 4x100 relay, the final leg of an athletic journey with no equal. I would have never thought I could go back-to-back-to-back Olympics. The first one, I was just happy. The second one was a challenge, and the third one is just unbelievable. It still feels unbelievable, even though it just happened.Nine gold medals. Victories in the 100, 200 and 4x100 in three straight Olympics. The triple-triple. World records in each event. Done.It also feels unbelievable that hes gone.Bolt turns 30 on Sunday. He swears these were his last Olympics. No more cheering as Bolt runs down opponents like a parent collecting a fleeing toddler. No more witnessing his legend grow with every gold medal, toward something as close to perfection as sport and history allow. Were used to seeing legends decline. Michael Jordan trying to come back with the Wizards, Muhammad Ali getting pummeled by Larry Holmes, Willie Mays stumbling in the outfield. The beloved Pele, too infirm or conflicted to light the cauldron at his native Brazils Olympic Games.Bolt, though, is still the worlds fastest man, by far. In Rio, after his traditional championship run-up of slow times and semi-injuries, Bolt dominated the 100 and crushed the field in the 200. Nobody came within a figurative mile of beating him.In the last leg of his last Olympic relay, Bolt took the baton slightly behind the field. Yet there was no drama, no fear that his legacy was in jeopardy. Only the thrill of knowing he was about to finish the race, the Olympics, and his career victorious. One of Bolts overlooked accomplishments is how he buried U.S. male sprint dominance. Jamaica now run tings, as they say on the island. So what happened in this last relay was fitting.First, the American anchor, Trayvon Bromell, was unable to hold off Japan -- yes, Japan -- down the homestretch. Bromell fell across the finish line with an injured Achilles and a third-place finish. Japans silver medal was anchored by Aska Cambridge, who was born in Jamaica to a Jamaican father and Japanese mother, then moved to Japan at age 2.The team of Bromell, Justin Gatlin, Tyson Gay and Mike Rodgers donned American flags and took a victory lap. For Gatlin and Gay, both 34 years old, it was almost certainly their final moment of glory, however bittersweet. The lap had to be especially emotional for Gatlin, who won gold in the 100 in the 2004 Olympics, sat out four years for a doping violation, then could never escape Bolts shadow. But after circling Olympic Stadium, the team was informed that first baton pass, from Rodgers to Gatlin, took place out of the exchange zone. The Americans were disqualified, and Canada took the bronze. It was the twilight zone. It was a nightmare, Gatlin said. You work so hard with your teammates, guys you compete against almost all year long. All that hard work just crumbles.USA Track & Field appealed the ruling. If it stands, it will be the ninth time since 1995 that the U.S. mens relay team has been disqualified or failed to get the baton around the track.Pressure, the Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell said mockingly after the race. Theyre more focused on beating us than actually running a proper race. Its the pressure of trying to beat the Jamaicans. No -- it was the pressure of trying to beat Bolt. When Powell handed the baton to the G.O.A.T, they were behind the U.S. Bolt had been there before. His 6-foot-5, 207-pound frame, the largest ever for a world-class sprinter, takes a while to get going. He ran out of obscurity to win gold in 2008. He came back from injury and a pre-London loss to countryman Yohan Blake in 2012. He came back from slow starts to win almost all of his races. Of course he would come from behind to win one last time.As soon as I got my hand on the stick, I knew I had won. You know what I mean? Bolt said. There was no one on that track that could outrun me to the finish. No one in the world. No one in history. Although Bolt made it look easy at the Olympics, he overcame an aversion to hard work and a history of injuries to perfectly peak every four years. In between his Olympic titles, he won every world championship 100 and 200, except for when he false-started the 100 at the 2011 worlds. No one is close to breaking his world records of 9.58 in the 100 and 19.19 in the 200.Now hes leaving the grand stage. He plans to run a lucrative series of victory lap races in 2017, then retire for good. Its mixed feelings, Bolt said. Its a relief because, its just really stressful, the years that Ive gone through, I had injury problems, its been so much. Its a relief. Im also sad that I have to leave, this is my last one. Im gonna miss the competition. Its just so many different feelings right now.Track and field will miss Bolt too, not just for his performances, but for being a clean athlete in a drug-fueled sport. Of the five fastest 100-meter runners in history -- Bolt, Gay (9.69), Blake (9.69), Powell (9.72), and Gatlin (9.74) -- only Bolt has never tested positive. Its as if the only way to compete with Bolt was to dope. And they still couldnt catch him.Bolt did lose a few times, when he was out of shape or injured and ran slower than usual. But when it mattered most, Bolt never failed. Nine Olympic finals, nine gold medals. Done. All of them are special to me, Bolt said when asked which one stood out. Without any of them, it wouldnt be the same. All of them are special, all of them means the world to me, you know what I mean? Its nine.It could end up as eight. In retests of frozen blood and urine samples from the 2008 Olympics, Nesta Carter, who ran the 4x100 meter gold-medal relay with Bolt, tested positive. If Carter is stripped of his relay medal, Bolt will lose his, too.I dont think it will tarnish my legacy, Bolt said. Ive proved over and over again that Ive done it clean. It will be disappointing, but its life. I have no control over that.Ive worked hard every Olympics to prove Im the greatest. It didnt start out that way. Growing up in the rural village of Sherwood Content, Bolt loved cricket, soccer, or any sport he could play. He became a junior world 200-meter champion at age 15 but didnt take track seriously until his failure in Athens. Then over the years I started making goals, Bolt said. And here I am. Fans brawled amongst themselves, and clashed with stewards and Watford supporters in the stands of their new home at east Londons Olympic Stadium.Though West Ham supporters have made strides to improve their overall behaviour and reputation, this incident comes on the heels of Mays final match at historic Upton Park when fans attacked Manchester Uniteds team bus. While these isolated incidents were quickly brought under control, this behaviour has no place in football and West Ham will work tirelessly to eradicate such incidents, the club said in an official statement.Including a EFL match, the Hammers play three straight home fixtures following this contest so the club has time to set up improved security measures. On the pitch and away from the smoke at home, they must find a way to rebound from their most recent debacle. Though the team is not ready to panic, there is an obvious sense of urgency brewing within the West Ham dressing room.We need points and so we need to get our heads down and work hard, midfielder Dimitri Payet told West Hams official website. We will go (to West Brom) with the right attitude to go and get the win. We know that every match in this league is difficult, especially away from home. The key is to work hard and to go there with confidence and do what we need to do on the day.Manager Slaven Bilic is confident his side has enough talent and care for each other to get through these early struggles. Wesst Ham dropped two of their first three last season then produced a 5-2-0 stretch and ultimately finished seventh to earn a spot in the Europa League qualifying round. Clearance Air Max Outlet. We will get together, work hard and turn this situation around, Bilic said. Theres no point in talking about leadership on the pitch or moving grounds and all that. The key to a turnaround will be improving a defence thats yielded seven goals in the last two Premier League matches. We cant afford to make the mistakes we did, because in the Premier League you will get punished, said midfielder Michail Antonio, who scored half of his four league goals against Watford on assists from Payet. Weve got to keep going and keep working hard in training. The Hammers have won twice and drawn two in the last four opposite West Brom (1-1-2) with both triumphs coming at The Hawthorns. While the £175m sale of West Brom to a Chinese consortium appears imminent, its still unknown how much time Pulis has left on the touch line. Though rumours of the veteran coachs departure from the West Midlands squad go back to last season, a report surfaced in the Daily Mail this week that the club is close to sacking him and perhaps former England national team boss Roy Hodgson would step in.West Broms winless stretch extended to four straight over all competitions with last Saturdays 1-0 loss at Bournemouth. It was frustrating because I thought we created some very good opportunities in the second half, midfielder Matt Phillips told West Broms official website. We created some good opportunities and thats something we can take into the next game. The Baggies have managed two goals through four league matches and none since Gareth McAuley scored in the ninth minute of a 2-1 home defeat to Everton on Aug. 20. NEW YORK -- Not many people had Stan Wawrinka and Angelique Kerber down to win the mens and womens titles at the US Open. Air Max Plus Clearance .Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams were both toppled in what was an eventful fortnight in Queens, to say the least. Here are the 10 biggest takeaways from Flushing Meadows:Time for a Big Five?As Wawrinka showed off his new trinket, John McEnroe said on the ESPN telecast that perhaps now it is time we expanded the Big Four to the Big Five. The Swiss has now matched Andy Murray by winning his third major title, and he looks far more likely to win another one sooner than the injured, aging Roger Federer and the dwindling Rafael Nadal.Wawrinka is now just a Wimbledon title away from completing the career Grand Slam, too -- he proved at Flushing Meadows that he deserves to be included in the conversation when talking about the games active greats.Time to change treatment rules?ESPN commentator Patrick McEnroe was not happy with what he perceived to be gamesmanship from Djokovic. The Serb looked to be struggling with leg cramps but took a medical timeout at 3-1 down in the fourth set for what he said was a foot injury, just before Wawrinka was due to serve.Sorry man, Djokovic said to a complaining Wawrinka. I couldnt stand. The world No. 1 took off both of his shoes and had his toes taped by the trainer. But McEnroe was not buying it. Complete abuse of the rules, he said on the broadcast. Its up to the officials to do something about it. They just dont have the guts to do it. Thats the bottom line.Trainers are not allowed to be called on court to treat cramps alone, according to ATP rules, and can only be summoned to provide treatment for an acute medical conditionon changeovers.Wawrinka had to save a break point when play resumed, but he was able to close out the 6-7 (1), 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 win after 3 hours, 55 minutes.Clock ticking for SerenaSo, Serena is human, after all.Losing to Kerber in the Australian Open final and Garbine Muguruza in the French Open final seemed like mere blips when she claimed her seventh Wimbledon title. But what once seemed unthinkable finally came true when she limped out in the semifinals to Karolina Pliskova here, surrendering her No. 1 ranking to Kerber, the eventual champion.Had she made it to the final and beaten Kerber, Williams would have broken two of Steffi Grafs records. The American would have overtaken the Germans previously unbeaten 186 consecutive weeks at the top of the rankings, and her Open-era best of 22 Grand Slam titles.Williams will turn 35 later this month and is seemingly finding it harder to recover between matches, having appeared to struggle after a quick turnaround from her quarterfinal Wednesday night.I wasnt tired from yesterdays match, she said after her defeat to Pliskova. Im a professional player; been playing for over 20 years. If I cant turn around after 24 hours and play again then I shouldnt be on tour.Missing out on the calendar Grand Slam last year may had a bigger effect on her mentally than first thought, too -- she may not get another shot at it, with her air of invincibility now fading.Kerber can be the new queenWith Williams absent, Kerber and Pliskova put on a thrilling final in Arthur Ashe Stadium and suggested they could be the two big faces of the womens game going forward.Kerber also became the first female player since Serena to win multiple majors in a single year with her three-set victory.Serena, for me, is one of the best players in the world. She is a great person and a great champion, said the German. What she did for the sport, its just incredible. Im trying to go my own way and trying to enjoy now every single moment with my second Grand Slam. Its one of my best years, so I will just try to continue this and just trying, as well, to improving my game and my personality, as well.Just taking the next steps in the next tournaments.Throw in Muguruza, the French Open champion who endured early exits at Wimbledon and Flushing Meadows, and Serena has a huge challenge on her hands to re-establish her dominance.Murray must learn from his mistakesMurray was the man in form arriving at the US Open, with 22 wins from his previous 23 matches, a Wimbledon title and a second straight Olympic gold medal. But those efforts took their toll on the 29-year-olds body. After a few days away, I would imagine Id be very happy with how I have done and learn from this match and the summer as a whole, Murray said after his shocking quarterfinal defeat to Kei Nishikori. Its been tough. Its been a hard summer. Im happy with how its gone. Theres just a few things I could do differently next time.Murrays biggest mistake was agreeing to play in Cincinnati on the heels of his triumphant run in Rio. Perhaps he was just not expecting to make it all the way to the final in the Masters event, where he lost to Marin Cilic.I pushed myself as hard as I could over the last few months, and Im very proud of how I have done, he added. If someone had offered me the summer Ive had before Wimbledon, I probably wouldve signed for that.Rafa has work to doRafael Nadal must keep improving to get back to where his game was.It was unlikely he would challenge for the title, here, given the wrist injury that caused him to withdraw from the French Open after his second-round match and miss Wimbledon. But the 14-time major champion was expected to go further than the round of 16, where he lost a five-set thriller to No. 25 Lucas Pouille.I have the motivation to keep working, he said. Took a long time, a lot of hours, a lot of spirit of sacrifice to be back where I was before the injury this year. Was tough. And now I need to come back there. I dont start from zero. Thats a positive thing. I am closer than last year to be where I want to be.Currently ranked sixth in the ATP Race to London, Nadal must finish the season strong and ensure qualification for the World Tour Finals. That will be a good effort if I make that happen after two months and a half without competition, he added. I going to fight for it.Del Potro can be a threat againAfter three wrist surgeries in the past two and a half years, Juan Martin del Potro began his latest comeback in February ranked 1045 in the world.Today the 2009 US Open champion will be confirmed as the new No. 63 after his stunning fairy-tale run as a wild card to the quarterfinals was ended by Wawrinka.Moving forward, the 6-foot-6 Argentine will not just be a feel-good story but a threat at the Grand Slams. He will use his excellent summer as a springboard for the 2017 season, when a return to the top 10 seems inevitable providing he stays healthy.Never will ask for wild card anymore, he said, smiling. I need to just to stay healthy and wait for the preseason to get 100 percent for next year. Im already top 100, so thats good. And everything here is positive for me. Im so glad for that.Federers absence feltA US Open without five-time champion Roger Federer just feels a little less special. The 17-time major winner missed his first Grand Slam for 17 years after a back injury ruled him out at Roland Garros. His misfortune continued with a knee issue keeping him from competing at Flushing Meadows, and the rest of the season. He has spent his time hiking in the Swiss Alps to take his mind off the pain.Of course it hurts, he told the ATP Tour website during the tournament. I would love to play on Arthur Ashe. I would love to hear the roars of the crowd. Just being in the city would be amazing, being there with all the other players. But he couldnt switch off completely,Im doing fine. Im healthy, and Im enjoying a great time with my family, he added. And I catch myself, very often, checking scores of whats going on.The 35-year-olds time on the tennis court may be coming to an end quicker than we thought, but it bodes well for the game to see that he is still so engaged with it despite his absence -- tennis without Federer at all in some capacity is a dejecting prospect.Kyrgios can hit great heights if he heeds adviceNick Kyrgios showed glimpses in New York that he can be one of the best players in the world if he puts his mind to it.But he also found himself on the receiving end of some criticism from ESPN commentator John McEnroe, after retiring with a hip injury in his third-round match.Nick Kyrgios, if you dont want to be a professional tennis player, do something else, the seven-time Grand Slam champion said. Hes hurt because hes not training enough. It may have just been McEnroes way of getting through to Kyrgios, from one hothead to another. The Australian appeared to take the advice on. John McEnroe takes a stab, I understand, he tweeted, having pledged after his defeat to unseeded Illya Marchenko to be more diligent with his physical work in the gym going forward.Quiet, pleaseThe new $150 million roof over Arthur Ashe Stadium was both a hit and a miss. While it has an obvious upside, the roof seemed to trap every single noise inside the stadium and magnify it, causing a big distraction to the players. The USTA may have to take a look at how it can solve the problem.Murray was the first player affected by it, when the roof was closed for his second-round match.Im sure if the feedback is that, you know, the TV or the spectators arent enjoying the match as much then they will look into it and try and change it, Murray said afterward. But if its fine on TV, which from what I have heard it is fine on TV -- I dont know what the fans have said about it yet, but the players will adjust. Air Max Plus Free Shipping .ca!
