Tarzan and the Amazons is a 1945 American adventure film starring Johnny Weissmuller as Tarzan and Brenda Joyce in her first appearance as Jane. The film, produced by Sol Lesser and directed by Kurt Neumann, features a plot where a group of archaeologists, driven by greed, discover a lost city of women with the help of Boy.
Plot Summary
The story begins with the return of Jane to the jungle from England. On the same boat is a group of archaeologists, led by Sir Guy Henderson, who are looking for the fabled lost city of women, known as the Palmyrians. Tarzan, who knows of the city and is a friend to the Amazons’ Queen (played by Maria Ouspenskaya), refuses to guide the expedition, respecting the tribe’s desire for privacy.
However, the naive Boy, believing he is assisting the cause of science, secretly leads the party to the hidden valley. Once inside the city, the men, particularly the villainous Ballister, give in to greed and begin looting the treasure vaults. A violent clash ensues, resulting in most of the intruders being killed, and Boy is captured and sentenced to death. Cheeta, the chimpanzee, alerts Tarzan, who arrives in time to rescue Boy and return the stolen treasure, restoring peace with the Amazon tribe.
